Improvement in SWFL economy amidst 2020 tumult

This week’s blog is about the recent economic survey conducted by the Florida Gulf Coast University's Regional Economic Research Institute. The final report shows signs of improvement in Southwest Florida's economy amidst the tumult of the first half of 2020. "Things looked bleak in March and they were still as bleak at the end of April. But what we're seeing now is that there is evidence of economic activity," said Christopher Westley, an economist and dean of FGCU's Lutgert College of Business. There are expectations of resuming the business surveys in the fourth quarter, however, he said, to get a longer view of the impacts. In the meantime, information from the four surveys will be used to produce a more in-depth analysis of the effects of the virus on the region's economy thus far.
